Founded by Ernie Jarvis, Walt Paulekas took over as President due to Ernie’s untimely passing in 2005. As his first act, he appointed Ken Guralnick as the Chief Executive Officer due to his expertise and experience as an institutional level consumer and provider of loss control services. Through their leadership, the company has streamlined, automated and expanded its operations.

Now located on I-91 between Hartford and Bradley International Airport, The UIS Group, Inc. finds itself benefitting from new offices, equipment and custom built software.

Field responsibilities are broad ranged from phone surveys for artisan contractors to jobsite evaluations working with construction foreman. Workers Compensation, in addition to exposure and control assessments, include safety program review, loss analysis, industrial hygiene and training for low to moderate hazard risks.

Property/Liability reporting capabilities also include a broad range of offerings for risks in the low to moderate hazard range. This includes retail, restaurants, habitational including high rise and large condominium associations, light manufacturing, garage to include auto body repair, and public sector as examples of our depth in the commercial arena. Insurance to Value calculations are offered through Marshall & Swift/Boeckh.

Quality starts with contractor qualifications. All contractors of The UIS Group, Inc. are required to have prior commercial reporting experience. Contractors performance is monitored by our Field Operations and Quality Assurance staff and are formally evaluated on a quarterly basis by the management team for technical capabilities, time service performance and client satisfaction. All reports are quality reviewed by a staff member with an average tenure of 13 years. The team leader has a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health and is working towards an ARM designation.

The UIS Group, Inc. seeks people experienced in property, casualty and insurance loss control or having an degree in a related safety field for its home office. The UIS Group, Inc. contracts with its affiliated companies, Underwriters Information Services, LLC (UIS, LLC) and Specialty Insurance Reporting Services, LLC (SIRS, LLC) to provide field survey services for The UIS Group, Inc.

UIS, LLC provides loss control surveys for submission to carriers that write “package policy” type business in the $500 to $150,000 premium range. Independent contractors who desire to perform inspection services for UIS, LLC should have prior company or carrier experience in all lines of commercial business.

SIRS, LLC provides loss control surveys for submission to insurance carriers and TPA’s relating to workers compensation coverage and higher exposure property risks. Independent contractors who desire to perform inspection services for SIRS, LLC should have prior experience in dealing with worker’s compensation risk assessments, work site surveys and advanced property evaluations.

The UIS Group, Inc. seeks people experienced in property, casualty and insurance underwriting or having an degree in a related safety field for its home office. All employees are expected to demonstrate their abilities and competency in a 90 day probationary period and work full time in the home office in Windsor, Connecticut. Ken is the senior manager for all of the UIS affiliated entities. He brings 34 years of Loss Control experience with major insurance carriers. Prior to joining UIS, Ken served for 12 years in loss control at Royal & Sun Alliance, most recently as Accident Prevention Vice President for the manufacturing segment. Previously he worked in loss prevention for CIGNA, Insurance Company of North America, and CG/Aetna since beginning his career in 1977.

Ken holds a Bachelor of Science from Central Connecticut State University, is an Insurance Institute of America Associate in Loss Control Management and is a National Fire Protection Association Certified Fire Protection Specialist. He is a member of the Epsilon Pi Tau – Industrial Arts Honor Society, a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, and is a Member of the National Fire Protection Association.

Andrea received her Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Occupational Safety and Health from the Keene State University in 2010. While at Keene State she was on the Dean’s List and a member of the college’s Honor Society. While a student, Andrea interned with the National Park Service working at the Richmond National Battlefield Park in 2010. She has been a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers since 2010.

Andrea joined The UIS Group in 2011 and is presently the Team Leader for Quality Assurance. As the Team Leader she insures that all reports performed by the Field Staff are quality reviewed by a member of her team. Individually, Andrea continues to expand The UIS Group’s capabilities for Workers Compensation reviews.

Eric received his Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2009. After graduation Eric joined the UIS Group and assisted in the development of the UISMIS software system presently used the by company. Subsequently, Eric procured, programmed and installed all management information systems presently used by the company. As the team leader for all technical services, Eric routinely interacts with clients and vendors to facilitate and trouble shoot all electronic communications from the field, home office and customers. He has implemented and installed off site archive systems and redundant internet connectivity. By having a full time, formally educated technical support person, Eric gives the UIS Group and its affiliated companies the immediate capability to address automation issues without the need for third party vendors.

Walt Paulekas received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1978. Upon receiving his commission, he served as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer. He later joined the Connecticut National Guard while attending the Western New England College School of Law where he received his J.D. in 1986 and was a member of the Law Review. Walt is admitted to the Connecticut Bar, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has been the managing partner of the law firm of Ford & Paulekas, LLP for the past 20 years. His personal law practice concentrates heavily in commercial real estate based litigation and risk management. Walt took over as President of The UIS Group, Inc. in 2005. As his s first action, he appointed Ken Guralnick as the Chief Executive Officer with whom he now shares ownership of the group of companies. Under Walt’s leadership The UIS Group, Inc. has modernized and upgraded its offices, MIS systems, quality control procedures and software. It is his hope that the company will continue to serve the insurance industry in the decades to come.
